What is leave of absence?
A leave of absence is an employee's agreed upon or spontaneous departure from his or her position for a specified period of time, which is governed by internal company regulations and spelled out in the company’s absence policies.
Absences can be caused by a number of reasons. These include annual leave, sick leave, parental leave, military service leave, business travel, personal reasons for absence, study absence, professional development absence, unpaid absence, etc. The company determines the policies itself and can create an unlimited number, taking into account also bonus days of absence, which the employee can spend at his or her discretion (birthdays, mental health day, family day, etc.).
